KUDOS! I have seen so many of you making a difference for families on Facebook while our lives are disrupted by COVID-19 and the safety precautions related to it. Thank you for your courage and passion for ministry during this time. Here are a few ideas from CTA to keep you going:
Put Your Oxygen Mask on First. Well, not literally. But there’s a reason airlines give that advice. You can’t take care of others if you haven’t taken care of yourself:
- Are you in the Word? Take time to read God’s Word every day. Choose a few verses to think more closely about. Let Him grow your faith through this. If you’re looking for a new topic, or direction, try one of CTA’s 5-week devotional books.
- Are you exercising? Walks are terrific for letting your brain work on new ideas—and you’ll need them! Exercising will give you energy and the kids will see that as they watch your Facebook videos.
- Are you eating right? staying hydrated? washing your hands? All of these things will help you stay well, making it much easier to take care of the kids from your church.
Continue as Normal. Of course, there’s a lot going on that’s not normal. However, the children know you as the person who tells them about Jesus, who reminds them of His care, who assures them of His love and forgiveness. Continue to be that person. If you’re looking for inspiration to spark new ideas, here are some ways to do that:
- Mail out activity books. The budget-friendly 16-page books provide activities that work to help children more fully understand the Bible and our Savior, Jesus. The Gospel Fun for Little Ones series is created for kids ages 3 to 6 and the others are for ages 7 to 11. Kids will be excited to get mail from you and parents will breathe a sigh of gratitude.
- Follow CTA on Facebook. We’re posting ideas you can share with parents. You are welcome to share them to your Facebook page. If you’re looking for even more ideas, we have four terrific sources for you!
First, you’ll want to share this reading of The Sunday Morning Miracle with the children in your care. If you send books to them, they can read along!
Second, the Resource & Idea Center has coloring pages, as well as kids event ideas (you won’t be able to hold an event right now, but some of the game and craft ideas are easy to adapt).
Third, check out our Pinterest page, created just for you and loaded with ideas!
Finally (and I saved the best for last) . . . The CTA Advantage area is open to ALL visitors through April 17. The Minute Filler section has bushels of ideas and pages you can email to parents. And speaking of taking care of yourself, there are some terrific conversations in the Mentoring Moments area that will be of interest to you in your role as children’s ministry leader.
Through this all, please know that we at CTA are praying for you, for your church, and for the children and families in your care. God bless you!
