From the Author: Obviously 2020 has been a difficult and challenging time for our country, communities, families, and ministries. For many years, CTA’s July newsletters were dedicated to bringing smiles and laughter as a new season of ministry waits around the corner. I’ve felt uneasy about writing such a newsletter this year. Please don’t mistake the light-heartedness below as a lack of seriousness or concern for so many who are hurting. The heartbeat of this company is encouraging people in a loving, Christ-centered, Scripture-based way – bringing Christ to all. I pray that the humor and ideas below provide an ointment of joy amidst the hurts, if even for a moment. May the following messages from a variety of sources bring some smiles in these challenging times.
- Never in a million years could I have imagined going to a bank teller with a mask on and asking for money.
- A fitness company contacted me to ask if I wanted to be one of their brand ambassadors. It just hit me that they probably want to use me for the “before” picture.
- I’ve found that if you tuck one part of your pant leg into your sock, people expect less of you.
- I wanted to go jogging, but Proverbs 28:1 says, “The wicked run when no one is chasing them” (GNT). So there’s that.
- Sometimes I wonder what happened to the people who asked me for directions.
- My son said he didn’t understand cloning. I told him that makes two of us.
- If the schools are closed for too long, the parents are going to find a vaccine before the scientists.
- I sneezed in front of my laptop and the anti-virus started a scan on its own.
- In the past we thought in 2020 we’d having flying cars. But no, here we are teaching people how to wash their hands.
- Did you ever notice when you lose the remote, you lose trust in everyone?
“Are you sitting on the remote?”
“No.”
“Get up!”
- Why does my wife always wait until I’m at the opposite end of the house before asking me to “Merm frner mernferr brnerfer?”
- There was a big paddle sale at the boat store. It was quite an oar deal.
- I just realized humans cut down bird’s houses to make birdhouses.
- Sometimes I like to go to the hardware store and run around with a screwdriver, shouting, “Ladies and gentlemen, this is not a drill!”
- I wanted to watch the world origami championship on TV, but it was only on paper view.
- I told my wife she should embrace her mistakes. She hugged me.
After sharing with those in your men’s ministry, discuss which were some of their favorite one-liners. Then ask them to share their favorite “one-liners” from the Bible as God has walked with them through these challenging six months of 2020.
Here are a couple Bible “one-liners” to get them started:
- Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORDyour God is with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9 ESV
- Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Proverbs 3:5–6 ESV
