From the Author: Obviously 2020 has been a difficult and challenging time for our country, communities, families, and ministries. For many years, CTA’s July newsletters were dedicated to bringing smiles and laughter as a new season of ministry waits around the corner. I’ve felt uneasy about writing such a newsletter this year. Please don’t mistake the light-heartedness below as a lack of seriousness or concern for so many who are hurting. The heartbeat of this company is encouraging people in a loving, Christ-centered, Scripture-based way – bringing Christ to all. I pray that the humor and ideas below provide an ointment of joy amidst the hurts, if even for a moment. May the following messages from a variety of sources bring some smiles in these challenging times.
- At this point, I have ordered so much stuff online, I can’t keep it straight. If a delivery truck shows up with a llama tomorrow, it is what it is.
- Parenting is a lot of loud sighs followed by yawns.
- I think I need to practice social distancing with my refrigerator.
- I know the school is closed, but could the boys just go there to use the bathroom?
- I never thought the comment “I wouldn’t touch him or her with a 6-foot pole” would become a national policy, but here we are.
- After this spring’s online schooling, I overheard my child tell a friend, “I hope I don’t have the same teacher next year!”
- Remember the show “Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?” I’m not.
- This homeschool lesson has been brought to you by your substitute teachers, Ms. Google, Ms. Alexa, Ms. Siri, and Mr. Wikipedia.
- If you see my kids locked outside today, mind your business. We are having a fire drill.
- If only I had known in March it would be my last time in a restaurant, I would have ordered dessert.
- Yesterday my husband thought he saw a cockroach in the kitchen. He sprayed everything down and cleaned thoroughly. Today I’m putting the cockroach in the bathroom.
- Therapist: Do you think the quarantine has changed you?
Me (knitting a dress for the possum in the backyard): No.
- I was reading Sleeping Beauty to my daughter. I started crying when I read the line that she was asleep for 100 years. My four-year-old asked, “Mommy, are you okay?”
I replied while wiping tears, “Yes, it’s just such a beautiful story.”
After laughing together with those in your women’s ministry, discuss which of those were some of their favorite one-liners. Then ask them to share their favorite “one-liners” from the Bible as God has walked with them through this challenging first half of 2020.
Here are a couple Bible “one-liners” to get them started:
- God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1 ESV
- Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. John 14:27
